Warning after Auckland sexual assault

3:41 pm on 26 February 2016

Police in Auckland are urging apartment dwellers to watch out for people tailgating them into apartment buildings, after a woman was sexually assaulted.

Detective Senior Sergeant Glen Baldwin said a man followed the woman into her Queen Street apartment block about 5am on Thursday.

She spoke to the man briefly then went into her apartment but he broke in shortly after and assaulted her, Mr Baldwin said.

She was able to raise the alarm and the man ran away when her flatmate came to help her.

Mr Baldwin said the victim was doing well in the circumstances and had strong support from her family.

People should take note of who followed them into secure apartment blocks and tell the police if they saw anything suspicious, he said.
