Northern Fire Communications said the international terminal at the airport on Monday night had been evacuated by a fire alarm, and firefighters attended.

Reports of smoke coming from underneath a door in the terminal were false.

Auckland Airport said a smoke detector had gone off when it shouldn't have, and some flights had been delayed.

An airport spokesperson could not say how many people had been affected, or how many flights.

However, the airport said operations had since returned to normal.
