HNZ opens tenders for 120 Wellington units

Housing New Zealand is asking builders to tender for the construction of 120 one bedroom homes in Wellington.

It wants builders for four proposed projects worth more than $40 million in the suburbs of Berhampore, Mt Cook, central Wellington and Newtown.

The four sites are owned by Housing New Zealand and had or still have old housing units on them that were either earthquake-prone or had weather tightness problems.

Acting general manager asset development Patrick Dougherty said Wellington has continuing demand for social housing, particularly one-bedroom properties.

He said the new homes would offer a better standard of living.
