There is a lack of detail in new legislation aimed at speeding up the time it takes to process a resource consent, says the Canterbury Regional Council.

The Resource Legislation Amendment Bill seeks to streamline six laws, including the Resource Management Act.
It is currently making its way through the select committee stage.
Regional council commissioner Peter Skelton told the select committee today he wanted to see more detail of how national policies for things such as water could cut across the existing policies of local councils.
He said he was nervous about the lack of detail and wanted the gaps in the information filled in, in a public and transparent way.
Mr Skelton said he welcomed changes making it mandatory for councils to engage with iwi on planning changes.
