The man accused of a violent attack on a woman runner in Whangarei last week has made a second appearance in court.

The man, who appeared by audio-visual link from prison, will remain in custody and undergo psychiatric tests to see if he is fit to plead.

The woman, in her early 20s, was abducted from the Hatea Loop walking track a week ago last Friday and sexually assaulted. She was then driven to central Whangarei and left on the street badly injured.

Her alleged attacker has been granted continued name suppression and remanded for two weeks.
