Pre-trial hearing for Taiaroa murder accused

A pre-trial hearing is underway for the man accused of murdering roadworker George Taiaroa three years ago.

Quinton Winders has appeared at the High Court in Rotorua to hear pre-trial applications.

All details of the hearing are suppressed.

The Taranaki man was arrested and charged last November after an 18-month investigation into the death of Mr Taiaroa, who was shot in March 2013 while operating a stop-go sign at roadworks near at Atiamuri.

The 45-year-old has previously pleaded not guilty and been remanded in custody.

His trial is due to start in August.
