An extreme fire weather warning has been issued for the Selwyn district.

Selwyn District Council said extreme fire weather was expected in the area from today until Saturday.
Residents were advised not to light outdoor fires as winds would usually be strong and temperatures high.
People were also advised to ensure that older fires were fully extinguished so they would not reignite.
The council said people should also be careful when operating outdoor machinery as sparks could create a fire.
