In 2015 Whana told a family member he was a licensed electrician and could install wiring in a house the relation was building.

He did the complete electrical fit out and issued a certificate of compliance with a false registration number.

It was later discovered the work was faulty and potentially dangerous.

Registrar of the Electrical Workers Registration Board, which took the prosecution, said the case was a timely reminder to always use a licensed electrician.

Whana was also order to pay legal and court costs.
