Submachine guns and assault rifles have been stolen from a gun collector's safe in Northland.
The 11 guns, along with a number of electronic items, were taken from a house in Dargaville yesterday evening.
Senior Sergeant Rob Huys said police were very concerned the firearms were now likely to be in the hands of criminals and posing an obvious risk.
He said the weapons had been properly secured in a gun safe.
Police are appealing to anyone with information to contact them.
