One person has died and two have been injured in a head-on crash in the King Country.
Emergency services were called to the two-car crash on State Highway 3 between Te Kuiti and Piopio about 5.30am today.
The ambulance service said one person died at the scene and two people were taken to Waikato hospital, one with serious injuries and the other with moderate injuries.
Diversions are in place but police were asking motorists to avoid the area as they examined the crash site.
