Police are searching for a man who tried to drag a 17-year-old girl into his car in Palmerston North.
The vehicle pulled up alongside the girl on Tremaine Avenue this morning before the driver got out and grabbed her around the waist, they said.
The man, who she didn't know, pulled her backwards until she kicked him in the shins and managed to escape.
The teenager had been waiting for a friend beside the busy street, near the Botanical Road intersection, about 8.30am.
Detective Carl Newton said it was difficult to know what the man's intentions were but his behaviour was very concerning.
