Southern motorway reopens after fatal crash

Updated at 4:58 pm on 14 March 2010

A section of Auckland's southern motorway in Manukau has reopened after a crash which killed one person and hospitalised seven.

The crash happened near the Orams Road overbridge in South Auckland at about 1pm on Sunday.

One woman died in the crash, and seven are in Middlemore Hospital after a van rolled on the motorway, throwing occupants out of the vehicle.

The southern motorway southbound at the site was closed off for three hours, but has now reopened.

St Johns Ambulance says one of the people it transferred to Middlemore Hospital was in a critical condition. Another had serious injuries, and five had moderate injuries.

Police say they do not believe any other vehicle was involved at this stage, and are asking for anyone who saw the crash to make contact with them.
