Call for long-term water storage solution for Far North

Updated at 7:41 am on 15 March 2010

A Northland farming leader and regional councillor says it is time to get serious about water storage in the Far North.

Water restrictions have been imposed in Kaitaia, with main water source the Awanui River running at an all-time low due to drought.

Ian Walker hopes the current water crisis will focus some attention on the need for more substantial long-term water storage.

Mr Walker says the region is a forgotten part of New Zealand, which needs investment if it is to grow.
