Helicopter lands safely after emergency scare

7:46 pm on 27 September 2010

A helicopter that sparked a full-scale emergency near Auckland has landed safely.

The Hughes 300 was forced to hover over Ardmore Airport with a jammed throttle for nearly 40 minutes until emergency services could position themselves.

The pilot also burned some of the helicopter's 45 litres of fuel before attempting the landing early on Monday evening.

Two people walked away from the landing without injury. Fire staff had to clean up a small fuel spillage.
