State Highway 1 is closed north of Tirau in South Waikato following a fatal accident.
The crash between a truck and a car happened at 12.45pm on Thursday.
The driver and sole occupant of a car police say appear to have crossed the centreline, hitting a truck, died at the scene.
The truck driver and a passenger were not injured.
The highway is closed at Piarere between the turnoffs to State Highways 27 and 29. Detours are in place.
