Tauranga motorway construction to start early

The Transport Agency has announced the construction of the Tauranga Eastern Link motorway project will begin later this month, more than six months earlier than anticipated.

A Fulton Hogan-led consortium has been appointed as the contracting team.

The agency says the consortium won the project for several reasons, including price and innovation.

The tendered price of $335 million was $15 million lower than had been estimated.

The savings are due to the use of lightweight foundations to raise the four lane highway over the Domain Road roundabout in Te Maunga, removing the need to relocate an electricity substation.
