A man facing sex charges died in Waikeria prison in Waikato overnight.
Police say he was on remand there. He was aged 33.
He was due for another appearance in the Hamilton District Court on Friday.
The Corrections Department says prison officers were unable to revive him.
The death has been reported to the Coroner and officers investigating the death are not seeking anyone else in relation to the matter.
