Teens in 'stolen car demolition derby'

4:09 pm on 14 December 2010

Police in Hamilton have found three underage drivers involved in what appears to be an amateur demolition derby on a public road, using stolen cars.

Officers were called to the southern outskirts of the city at about 6am on Tuesday, after reports of cars doing burn-outs.

They found two damaged vehicles, and three boys aged 14 and 15 in a third car with an engine that was so worn out it broke down when they tried to get away.

Police have referred the teenagers to Youth Aid.

They say one of the boys had already been arrested overnight, and returned home when he was picked up again.

Over the weekend, Hamilton police caught a 14-year-old drink-driving in a vehicle he took without permission.
