A man has been charged in Queenstown after an alleged hit-and-run that injured two people.

Police say a silver Toyota Estima veered over the centre line onto a footpath in Gorge Road, hitting a man and a woman, before being driven off.

The injured, both aged 24, were taken to Southland Hospital with moderate injuries following the incident which happened about midnight on Thursday.

Police say a third pedestrian narrowly escaped being hit.

A 30-year-old man has been charged with two counts of drink-driving causing injury and failing to stop. He will reappear in Queenstown District Court on 24 January.
