Police hunt for man after fatal beating

8:52 pm on 31 January 2011

Police are pleading for a wanted man to give himself up following a fatal bashing in South Auckland.

Aran Jenkanying, 56, and his sister Arunee, 57, were severely beaten at a house in Bolton Place at about 9.30am on Wednesday.

Family members decided to switch off life support for Mr Jenkanying on Saturday. He died at 12.50am on Sunday.

Arunee Jenkanying is in hospital in a stable condition.

Police believe the two victims were beaten with a 1.5 metre wooden stick.

A homicide investigation is underway and police have issued a warrant for the arrest of Ms Jenkanying's stepson, Patrick Young.

Police say the 42-year-old should not be approached.

Detective Senior Sergeant Dave Glossop says Mr Young needs to turn himself into police.

He says police don't want anyone else to get hurt, including Patrick Young.

Mr Glossop says police are still searching for a white 1997 Toyota Corolla station wagon that Patrick Young may be driving, with a registration number WE4873.

Mr Glossop says Mr Young has associates throughout the North Island and warns anyone who helps or harbours him will be prosecuted.

Anybody with information is urged to contact Otara police station.
