Gisborne was jolted by a string of earthquakes on Monday afternoon.
The first, measuring 4.2, occurred at 12:39 pm, followed by another of the same force at 12.53pm.
A third quake of magnitude 3.3 happened at 1.01pm followed by the fourth quake measuring 4.1 at 2pm.
The quakes struck 30km south of Gisborne at depths of 25km to 30km.
