A dog has been seized after a baby was bitten during a dog fight in Gisborne.
The boy, aged six months, is in Gisborne hospital with bites to his face and his arm.
The hospital says he was sitting up and smiling on Saturday morning and had had some food.
Gisborne District Council says a female boxer dog bit the child at an address Centennial Crescent on Friday afternoon after a fight broken out among male dogs.
The bitch has been seized and is at the council kennels.
