Police in Lyttelton have located two witnesses at the scene of a fatal cycling crash in the Port Hills.
The victim, a 43-year-old man, was riding with friends on the Summit road, when it appears, he hit rocks while going at speed downhill.
The witnesses - tourists who were about to go climbing - told police they heard the crash and were the first at the scene.
The man's friends were riding behind him, but did not see the incident.
