Updated at 1:00 pm on 22 February 2011

Police have released the names of two young people killed in a car crash near Foxton.

They have described the crash as a senseless waste of young lives, after a Ford Telstar carrying seven occupants lost control and overturned on Foxton Beach Road about 5am on Sunday.

Bailey Hohepa Kinita, 15, of Shannon, was thrown from the vehicle and died at the scene, while Louise Diane Reichenbach, 20, was found dead in the car.

The 19-year-old male driver has been moved out of intensive care and is now in stable condition in a general ward of Wellington Hospital on Monday.

Two passengers remain in intensive care and two were treated at the scene of the crash for minor injuries.

Police are keen to speak with two men seen in a white car who were with the passengers of the Ford earlier on Sunday morning.
