Staff at the country's biggest local body are being urged not to fund-raise at work for the Christchurch earthquake recovery.
One Auckland Council executive has emailed staff saying the distraction of fund-raising is disrupting the organisation.
Another email from council chief executive Doug McKay says that some staff feel pressured by the fund-raising, and that collecting cash raises security issues.
Mr McKay is stopping short of banning staff from fund-raising, and several ideas already organised by staff will go ahead.
He says he would prefer that staff who want to contribute do so directly to organised appeals.
Mr McKay says Auckland Council itself is donating $1.5 million to Christchurch and the first of about 100 staff arrived on the first day after the quake.
