A man is in hospital in Dunedin with serious head injuries after an assault.
Police say the man, in his 40s, was attacked for no apparent reason by up to six men, aged from their late teens to early 20s.
Witnesses say the man was kicked while on the ground.
He is in a serious but stable condition and police say the extent of his injuries are unknown.
There have been a string of similar assaults in central Dunedin in the past few months, and police are asking for anyone who saw the attack to contact them.
