Earthquakes felt in Twizel area

Three shallow earthquakes have been felt in Twizel, in the South Island's Mackenzie District.

The first, at 1.10pm, was of magnitude 4.6 and at a depth of 9 kilometres. It was centred 10 kilometres south-west of Twizel.

The second and third quakes both had magnitudes of 4.3, and they were both at a depth of 5 kilometres.

The second quake struck at 1.33pm and was located 20km south-west of Twizel, while the third quake struck at 1.34pm and was 10km south-west of Twizel.
