Toxic shellfish warning lifted

1:55 pm on 22 March 2011

After 15 months, a toxic shellfish health warning for the wider Coromandel and Bay of Plenty coastline has been lifted.

The warning was put in place in December 2009 after paralytic toxin was found in shellfish from Tairua on the eastern Coromandel coast, through to the mouth of the Whakatane river.

Routine tests have indicated the levels of shellfish toxin are now within safe limits.
