Meth seizure, arrests in lower North Island

6:46 pm on 31 March 2011

Wellington police have arrested nine people and seized what they say is a substantial amount of methamphetamine after early-morning searches in the lower North Island.

More than 60 police were involved in the operation, in Masterton, Lower Hutt, Petone, Wainuiomata and Berhampore.

Senior Sergeant Steve Harwood of the Lower Hutt police says officers also found two cannabis-growing operations and stolen computers.

He says five men and four women are in custody facing a range of charges - including selling and supplying a class A drug.

Further arrests are likely.
