Police say they have removed a body from a west Auckland beach.
Members of the public told police shortly after 9am on Friday that a body was on Muriwai Beach.
However, there was a delay in locating the body due to the number of people on the beach and difficulty accessing it because of the incoming high tide.
The police helicopter was hindered by low cloud and rain and could not fly low due to kite surfers.
Police say the body has been taken away on Friday afternoon to begin the process of formal identification, which could take some time.
The death is not thought to be suspicious.
