Christchurch Charity Hospital to offer free dental care

7:42 pm on 24 May 2011

The Christchurch Charity Hospital is expanding and is set to offer an acute dental service in addition to other services.

The hospital in Harewood Road provides free, non-urgent day surgery and medical consultations for those considered not serious enough to be seen in the public system and unable to afford private care.

It began counselling services after the earthquakes in September last year and February, and has now paid about $440,000 for an adjacent property.

Christchurch Charity Hospital Trust chairman Philip Bagshaw says it will enable them to offer dental services and an endoscopy service while continuing the counselling.

Mr Bagshaw says has been made possible under an agreement with the Canterbury Dental Association.
