Hastings police are warning the parents of primary school children about a middle-aged man who has been trying to entice children into his car.

Senior Sergeant Luke Shadbolt says the man has approached several children walking home from school in both Hastings and Havelock North in the past couple of weeks.

He says the most recent case was Wednesday afternoon when an eight-year-old boy was followed in the suburb of Mahora. In each case, he says, the children have refused to get into the car.

Senior Sergeant Shadbolt says the man has been described as Caucasian and driving a late model dark-coloured sedan.
