A small earthquake shook Auckland on Friday night.
It struck at 9.15pm at a depth of nine kilometres and was centred 10km east of Auckland.
The magnitude-2.9 quake was widely felt throughout the region.
GNS seismologist Lara Bland says the last earthquake in the area was in 2007. She says the tremor was not related to volcanic activity.
