A former Tauranga bank worker has been sentenced to four months' home detention for stealing $41,000.

Vicki McCaskie appeared in the Tauranga District Court on Thursday for sentencing on a number of fraud charges relating to when she worked at a local bank.

Judge Thomas Ingram said McCaskie had been sentenced to home detention for another offence last year, but at the time failed to reveal her additional offending.

In sentencing, he said it was inevitable McCaskie's actions would be detected.

The judge said a substantial sum was stolen and the crime was a considerable abuse of trust.

McCaskie was orderd to do 200 hours of community service and to pay back the stolen amount at a rate of $25 per week from September.

McCaskie said a gambling addiction caused her to steal.
