Radio One not for sale

Updated at 10:46 pm on 8 August 2011

The Students Association at Otago University has decided not to sell its radio station.

The association was considering putting Radio One on the market as it prepares for the possible end of mandatory membership if an ACT Member's Bill succeeds.

The station received more than 100 submissions opposing a sale during consultation in July.

The association says the consultation showed the station had the support of musicians, broadcasters and international listeners.

Vice-president Brad Russell says Radio One will have to become more cost effective and better serve the needs of university students.
