Home-care jobs in limbo - PSA

The Public Service Association says hundreds of home-care workers in Wellington are in limbo, because they don't know the future of their jobs.

Capital Coast District Health Board's contract with Healthcare of New Zealand for elderly in-home-care ends on 31 October.

Two other contractors, Access Home Health Services and Prebyterian Support Services, will take on the work.

PSA national secretary Richard Wagsaff says service funding has been trimmed by $2 million and 300 members don't know if they still have a job or what their pay and conditions will be.

In a statement, the DHB says it expects most the workers affected will transfer to the new contracters and savings will be made through less duplication of administrative and managerial services.
