Bay of Plenty has been rattled by a magnitude 5 earthquake.
The quake hit at 2.19am on Sunday, 90 kilometres north-east of Whakatane at a depth of 50 kilometres.
Geonet says it was felt widely in eastern Bay of Plenty and on the Raukumara Peninsula.
Some people as far away as Auckland reported feeling the quake.
