Release of plans for Christchurch airport link road on hold

1:51 pm on 9 December 2011

The Transport Agency says it is putting on hold the release of plans which outline a major roading development linking Christchurch city to the airport.

Christchurch City Council has said it is concerned about the scale of the development for the SH1 Western Corridor past Christchurch Airport, which is supposed to ease pressure at a busy intersection.

There had also been secrecy about the designs for a planned symbolic gateway and what form it would take.

The agency's southern regional director, Jim Harland, says they hope to reveal the plans early next year.
