An elderly woman was in a serious condition in Auckland Hospital after being pulled from a house fire in the Auckland suburb of Mount Roskill.
The Fire Service says the blaze started in the kitchen of the house after 5am on Sunday.
When firefighters arrived the house was smoke-logged and the 86-year-old woman had been overcome by the smoke.
