Cities discuss prostitute legislation

Updated at 7:55 am on 20 January 2012

A Christchurch city councillor says a meeting with an Auckland council official has highlighted that both communities are dealing with the same street prostitute problems.

Auckland Council is supporting a bill before Parliament which would allow street prostitution to be banned in some areas of the city.

An Auckland council official met Christchurch councillors and staff on Thursday to discuss why the bill is needed and what it covers.

Christchurch city councillor Aaron Keown says it's clear the communities are facing identical problems.

Mr Keown says Christchurch City Council would like to see the bill extended to cover other regions and other councils may want to join them.
