Communications review defended by mayor

Updated at 5:40 am on 22 January 2012

Christchurch Mayor Bob Parker is defending an $80,000 review of how the council communicates, saying it has not been up to scratch lately and needs improving.

The review, announced on Friday, has been criticised by Cr Yani Johanson, who called it a waste of money, saying the communications committee he chairs was already undertaking a review.

But Mr Parker says communication at the council has not been cutting the mustard in recent weeks, and with about 3000 personnel operating out of 27 temporary offices, it is important the problem is sorted.

The independent review by Felicity Price is expected to take about three months.
