Council puts off meeting

Updated at 7:14 pm on 30 January 2012

Christchurch City Council has agreed to delay an extraordinary meeting which was to cover contentious issues that have led to the Government installing a Crown Observer to oversee the Council.

The appointment of Kerry Marshall was announced on Friday after an informal meeting between the council, the Local Government Minister, Nick Smith and the Earthquake Recovery Minister, Gerry Brownlee.

A public meeting today, which was initiated by Councillor Yani Johanson, was to look at a planned communications review and the interaction between the council's governance and its management.

But the council has agreed to put the meeting on hold until it had started the process with Mr Marshall to work through its internal issues.

The meeting will be rescheduled, but a date has not yet been set.
