Transport Agency dishonest over proposed tunnel change

Updated at 6:31 pm on 8 February 2012

The Transport Agency is being accused of dishonesty for proposing a contentious change to the Waterview motorway tunnel project in Auckland.

The agency wants to relocate a large exhaust tower, despite the Waterview community winning a nine-month planning battle to have it moved further away.

Community leaders say the tower would be closer to their school and park, and Auckland councillor Cathy Casey says the agency is being dishonest.

Margi Watson who is on the local board, says the agency and its construction team must stick to the Board of Inquiry planning decision.

The Transport Agency says it will talk further with the community and will not proceed unless there is significant local support.
