Police name man killed in Hawke's Bay collision

Police have named the man who died in a head-on collision on State Highway 2 between Nuhaka and Morere in northern Hawke's Bay on Saturday afternoon.

He was Stuart Symes, 54, of Nuhaka.

Mr Symes was the sole occupant of the vehicle travelling south. He died at the scene.

Two people in the other vehicle travelling north were flown to Hastings Hospital by helicopter, one in a serious condition, the other critical. Police say the occupants of the other car were also from Nuhaka.

The crash happened at 11am on Saturday, and the road was closed until late on Saturday afternoon.
