Police seek car sightings in relation to homicide

Police investigating the death of a man in Oxford, north of Christchurch, are appealing for sightings of a white car in the early hours of Thursday morning.

The body of Sameera Chandrasena, 28, was found on Wednesday after a fire at the Dominion Road property he rented from his employer.

Police believe Mr Chandrasena died before the fire, as a result of injuries consistent with an assault.

Detective Inspector Virginia Le Bas says although police have impounded a white Mitsubishi Chariot, they are seeking sightings of the car between 3am and 5am on Thursday.

They say the car may have travelled from Oxford towards Christchurch along Tram and Marshland Roads.
