Pumping back in full swing on Rena

5:05 pm on 29 October 2011

Salvage crews working on the stranded container ship Rena have been pumping oil off the vessel for most of Saturday, after a four-hour halt early in the morning.

Salvors found water, instead of oil, was being pumped from the tanks. They rectified the problem by sealing a valve.

They have been clearing two tanks in the engine-room, which just leaves the submerged starboard tank to be cleared.
