Weather hampers Rena salvage

Maritime New Zealand says no containers were removed from the stranded cargo ship Rena which is grounded off the coast of Tauranga on Saturday, due to weather conditions.

It says it will reassess whether work will resume on Sunday morning.

The authority says no containers were removed from the Rena on Friday and it is too difficult to tell when all the remaining 1200 containers will be taken off the ship.

The authority says the recovery of container debris from Motiti and White Islands is planned for Sunday.

Clean-up operations continued on Saturday at Mount Maunganui, Leisure Island, and Papamoa.
