More penguins released after Rena spill

More penguins rescued after oil spilled from a stricken container ship off Tauranga have been released into sea.

The Rena ran aground on the Astrolabe Reef on 5 October.

On Monday, 38 penguins were set free, following nearly 50 last week. About remain at the wildlife recovery centre near Mount Maunganui.

Meanwhile, 24 containers were taken off the ship on Monday, bringing the total removed to 143.

About 1100 remain on the ship's deck and in its hold.
