Another crane barge is expected to arrive in Bay of Plenty on Monday morning to assist the recovery of containers from the Rena.
The ship ran aground on the Astrolabe reef, 12 nautical miles from the Tauranga coast on 5 October.
The Smit Borneo should arrive from Singapore at around 11am.
The barge has a longer reach and is expected to retrieve containers that the other barge, the Sea-Tow 60, is unable to lift.
Maritime New Zealand says oil spill response teams will also be on standby after more oil leaked from the ship during rough weather on the weekend.
The agency says about half a tonne of oil was spilled from damaged pipework in the duct keel.
