A container thought to have fallen off the Rena has been confirmed as still being on board.
Braemar Howells, the company in charge of processing the Rena's containers, says it was so badly damaged it could not be identified until now.
The discovery reduces the number of containers that fell off the Rena to 86.
However, there are still more than 1100 containers on board. Poor visibility on Tuesday morning again stalled their recovery.
The barge Smit Borneo arrived from Singapore on Monday and was being fitted with a crane that can lift salvors onto the containers.
Salvors will also move into the barge's accommodation block so that most of them can stay on site beside the Rena during the operation.
